• Halloween --or All Saints' Day
Eve-- is not just for trick or treats.
The holiday's origins lie in pagan
practices, most notably the Celtic
festival of Samhain, which marked
the end of summer and the
beginning of the Celtic new year,
on November 1st.  Legend has it
that this was the time when the
spirits of those who had died
during the previous year came to
visit, searching for a living body
they could possess.  To frighten
these spirits away, the living
dressed up in costume and
roamed the neighborhood,
creating noise and mayhem.

• Share and make the world
a better place...

• World governments are
spending more on guns and
bombs than ever.  Global military
expenditures in 2009 topped $1.53
trillion.  That's 2.7% of global GDP,
up 6% in real terms from 2008 and
up 49% since 2000.  The U.S. spent
$661 billion or 4.3% of its GDP,
accounting for 43% of the world
total.  China followed with an
estimated $100 billion or 2% of its
GDP and 217% more than 2000.

• Smile when picking up the
phone.  The caller will hear it in
your voice.

• Countries with highest military
spendings in 2009, in billions of
U.S. dollars:
U S A 661
China 100
France 64
U K 58
Russia 53
Japan 51
Germany 46
Saudi Arabia 41

• Let us learn to appreciate
there will be times when the trees
will be bare, and look forward to
the time when we may pick the
fruit, said Anton Chekhov.

• Heart attacks are caused by
the blockage of one or more of
the coronary arteries that supply
blood to the heart.  A stroke occurs
when there is a blockage of blood
flow to the brain.  Both diseases
can be prevented by better blood
circulation.

• Did you know that:
Elephants are the only animals
that cannot jump.

• Over 900,000 Americans
die each year from cardiovascular
disease.  The main risk factors for
heart disease are:  high blood
pressure, high cholesterol and
triglycerides numbers, blood
sugar levels, obesity, smoking, not
enough physical activity and
high-salt and fatty-foods diets.
By walking 10 minutes a day,
losing weight, quitting smoking
and watching what we eat, we can
significantly reduce our risk for
heart disease.

• Did you know that:
The muscles in your heart have
the strength of shooting your blood
33 feet (or 10 meters) in the air.

• Small corporations will face
major IRS audit heat.  Beginning in
next year 22,000 corporations with
up to $50 millon in assets will be
subject to a line-by-line
examination by the IRS. Now,
that's extensive.  Tax returns for
2009 will be examined randomly
across a number of industries.
IRS will use the results from these
exams to update its formulas for
selecting returns for audits.

• We see more in numbers
than just numbers...
