• U.S. Consumers say they are
feeling more upbeat.  Consumers'
outlook on their present situations,
and expectations for the future,
both have improved.  While
consumer confidence remains
well below pre-recession levels, it
has almost doubled from a year
ago.

• LeBron James was a star
football player, when he was in
high school, earning all-state
honors as a wide receiver in his
sophomore year, and helping his
team make it to the state
championship semifinals in his
junior year.  Some sports analysts
thought he could have been
drafted to the NFL.  Instead, his
prowess on the basketball court
brought him far greater acclaim.
When he was 18, he was the
number one NBA draft pick,
chosen by the Cleveland
Cavaliers.  During his tenure with
them James has racked up a
series of "youngest-ever" stats.
He was the youngest-ever player to
score more than 50 points in one
game, the youngest to score 2,000
points in a season, the youngest
to score 10,000 career points, the
youngest to be named NBA
Rookie of the year, the youngest to
have two All-Star MVPs, the
youngest to be named to the
All-NBA first team, the youngest to
record a triple-double and the third
youngest player (behind Oscar
Robertson and Magic Johnson) to
post 15 triple-doubles.  LeBron
James, who's truly been a
basketball phenomenon, says:
"I never worry about individual
accolades.  Never have and never
will.  I feel like the individual
awards will come with the team's
success."  LeBron James, the
finest player on the planet, will be the
NBA's biggest free-agent prize in the
off-season this summer.

• Are there many lakes in LA?
As sports enthusiasts know, when
a team moves, the name often
moves with it.  The LA Lakers
came from Minnesota, "Land of
10,000 Lakes."  Utah's pro
basketball team originated in New
Orleans, home of jazz, hence Utah
Jazz.  Not willing to be NBA-less
for long, New Orleans is now the
home of Hornets, which relocated
from Charlotte, North Carolina.
And Memphis' Grizzlies packed up
and moved from Vancouver.  In
1958, two popular New York
baseball teams, the Dodgers and
the Giants, moved to California:
The Brooklyn Dodgers became the
LA Dodgers, and the NY Giants
are the San Francisco Giants.  And
long-time Dodgers manager
Tommy Lasorda, who's now in his
80's, made his major league
debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers in
1954.  He said once:  "The
difference between the impossible
and the possible lies in a man's
determination."

• "Champions aren't made
in gyms.  Champions are made from
something they have deep inside
them — a desire, a dream, a
vision.  They have to have
last-minute stamina, they have to
be a little faster, they have to have
the skill and the will.  But the will
must be stronger than the skill." —
That's by Muhammad Ali.

• Nicolas Sarkozy, president of
France, ordered a bill to ban
women from wearing Islamic
veils that hide the face in
public places.

• We see more in numbers
than just numbers...
