•  I'm an innocent spouse:  a man's pleadings before the Tax Court:

You're looking at a man who signed a

joint return --

Without really known' what my baby earned.

Now I've lost my baby and I've lost my

house --

I tell you judge, I'm an innocent spouse.

You never could have guessed that my

baby would be --

A player in the underground economy.

I signed all the papers just as meek as

a mouse --

I tell you, judge, I'm an innocent spouse!

• If at first you don't succeed, shouldn't you try it the way your wife told you to do it?.

• This one's for my doctor friends who're still struggling to figure out how to treat a cough:

The owner of a drug store walks-in to find a guy leaning heavily against a wall.  The owner asks the clerk, "What's with that guy over there by the wall?"

The clerk says, "well, he came in here this morning to get something for his cough.  I couldn't find the cough syrup, so I gave him an entire bottle of laxative."

The owner says, "You idiot!  You can't treat a cough with laxatives!"

The clerk says, "Oh yeah?  Look at him, he's afraid to cough!"

• Cause and effect: A czar once learned that the most disease-ridden province in his empire was also the province with the most doctors.  His solution?  He promptly ordered all the doctors shot dead.  What the czar didn't realize was that the correlation simply means that a relationship exists between two factors - let's call them X and Y - which tells you nothing about the direction of that relationship.  It's also possible that Y causes X.  And it may be that X and Y are both being caused by some other factor, Z, (or maybe the czar himself, in this case.)

• Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end you first try?.

• Roe v Wade: In 1970, Norma McCorvey dramatically altered the course of events without intending to.  All she had wanted was an abortion.  She was poor, uneducated, unskilled, alcoholic, drug-using 21-year-old woman who had already given two children up for adoption.  And now she found herself pregnant again.  But in Texas, as in all but a few states at the time, abortion was illegal.  McCorvey's cause came to be adopted by people far more powerful than she.  They made her the lead plaintiff in a class-action lawsuit seeking to legalize abortion.  The defendant was Henry Wade, the Dallas County district attorney.  The case ultimately made it to the U.S. Supreme Court, by which time McCorvey's name had been disguised as Jane Roe.  In January 1973, the court ruled in favor of Ms. Roe, allowing legalized abortion throughout the country.  By this time, of course, it was far too late for Ms. McCorvey / Roe to have her abortion.  Years later she renounced her allegiance to legalized abortion and become a pro-life activist.

• Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat, will have materialized?.

• Google has been testing a service that could put it in direct competition with e-Bay, newspapers and other sellers of classified ads.

• We see more in numbers  than just numbers…
