YOU MUST MAKE YOUR VOICE UN-SEXY A young female employee sued her employer for receiving telephone calls from its president, alleging that he had a "sexy" voice.  The woman regarded his calls as sexual harassment, even though the man didn't propose a relationship. The court of appeals threw out the case.

IRISH WORKS "RIVERDANCE" AND " Angela's Ashes" have helped fuel the growth of 25% in  annual sales of Irish-American retail stores since 1994. Irish-American outlets have increased to 534 from 366 in 1994 and both owners and customers have become more diverse, says  Michael McNicholas of Enterprise Ireland, an Irish trade group.

SAME TAX FORMS - DIFFERENT RESULTS: Using the same information, it's quite possible and normal to prepare and present an income-tax return which would result in much less taxes, while bearing much less chances of being selected for an audit. A tax-accountant has such an expertise and experience!

THERE ARE MORE THAN 5 MILLION BUSINESS sites on the internet, with 2,000 new sites created daily.

IN 1995, ABOUT 66% OF HOUSEHOLDS HAD a MasterCard, Visa or other credit cards, up from 43% in 1983, shows the U.S. government's data.

HEART DISEASE AFFECTS MEN AND WOMEN differently: A study of 385,000 heart-attack patients finds that women are more than twice as likely as men to die before being discharged from the hospital. Such gender-related difference in death rate diminishes as the age of the patients nears 75.

ON PROLIFERATION OF BANK MERGERS: Globalization, technological advances, more regulatory flexibility, cost savings and diversification are often cited as motives for merging. Mergers reduce costs when redundant branches are closed or when back-office functions are consolidated. Mergers also further diversify bank portfolios and thereby reduce the probability of insolvency, thus allowing merged banks to cut the costs further, because their borrowing costs and capital-asset ratios are
lower. A recent extensive study of empirical data on bank mergers throughout the '90s has found that bank mergers have reduced operating costs and that the size of the merger did not have a significant effect on the amount of cost savings.
PHARMACISTS ARE IN HIGH DEMAND: That's because of an aging population, a slew of new drugs and expansion in drugstore chains. Experienced registered nurses also are in short supply.

"WHERE THERE'S A WILL, THERE'S AN  inheritance tax," says a bumper-sticker.

ESCALATORS AND ELEVATORS DO THE SAME thing, but the IRS doesn't get it: In August '99 the IRS Web site reported that they were to "gather citizen input, identify and 'escalate' problems." Obviously, a blooper! After being notified by an astute reader that problems need to be solved not escalate, the IRS changed the wording on its Web site to read: "to 'elevate' problems!"

62% OF WORKING WOMEN WOULD PREFER a four-day workweek than a 20% pay increase.

RESURGENCE IN THE FITNESS-CLUB INDUSTRY: Membership in more than 15,000 health clubs in the U.S. grew by 21%, to nearly 30 million, during the past three years. Medicine-ball work-out is the latest fitness fad after such designer exercises as Pilates and power yoga - a kind of yoga that makes you sweat. Medicine ball is a simple, soft, but heavy ball, weighing 4 to 60 pounds. "You just pick 'em up and move 'em around," says Josh Worby of JustBalls.com.

TAX COMPLEXITIES ANGER EVERYBODY.  Even AT&T's chairman C. Michael Armstrong. AT&T files 40,000 state and local tax returns a year. "It's just silly," says Mr. Armstrong.

66% OF AMERICANS TAKE THEIR LUNCH to work.

DRINKING TEA CUTS HEART-ATTACK RISK: Antioxidant flavanoids contained in at least one cup a day of regular black tea can reduce the risk of heart-attack by 44%, found a Harvard study.

70% OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS TEACHERS USE computers daily, up from 47% a year ago.

WISHING YOU THE SEASON'S PEACE, joy and blessings. Happy 2000 and THANK YOU for being the greatest clients and friends.
